Yttrium oxide is used as a stabilizer. This material is mainly tetragonal. Among all zirconia materials, it has high flexural strength, especially during sintering and pressing. Yttrium stabilized zirconia has fine grains and is suitable for cutting tools because of its high wear resistance. It is used to cut a very sharp corner. Yttrium stabilized zirconia can be used to make crucibles for vacuum induction melting, high purity zirconium sizing nozzle or zirconium composite long nozzle bricks for steelmaking, lining bricks for furnace and gas reaction furnace at temperatures higher than 1800 C. Zirconia products with semiconductor properties can be made into high temperature furnace heater, high temperature furnace tube, drawing die and so on. It can also be made into zirconia elements for continuous temperature measurement in high temperature solution and zirconia elements for various oxygen determinators. The fused zirconia sand can be used as aggregate of zirconia amorphous material, casting sand of titanium alloy and plasma spraying material. With the development of science and technology, the application of stabilized zirconia is expanding to different fields. Yttrium stabilized zirconia has excellent grain size, which makes the produced ceramics dense and without many pores. It has excellent mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, impact toughness, thermal shock resistance and very low thermal conductivity. Because of these characteristics, yttrium stabilized zirconia is mainly used in wear-resistant parts, cutting tools and thermal barrier coatings.
